Wanting to keep their family members close by, the owners sought a granny flat builder for their Turramurra two storey home.  On a tight budget, the owners had quotes from other granny flat builders but found the SBR Group quotation was less expensive and better value for money.

With a gently sloping back yard, the granny flat design plan took advantage of this and used a 1 metre suspended foundation on piers to create a single level 2 bedroom, living, kitchen, one bathroom and laundry home.

The design incorporated a half-raked roof in the living section providing a sculptural dimension to space externally.  Internally, the visual interest allows natural light in without overwhelming the small scale of the granny flat.  It also improves airflow for the temperate Sydney climate.

In keeping with the style of their main residence, and ensuring the granny flat looked smart, they used Spandek by Lysaght.  It is a cost-effective solution with a contemporary-looking wood grain plank profile.  As well as being low maintenance, Spandek offers acoustic efficiency as well as thermal properties to help reduce moisture build up and subsequent mould problems.  In high humidity, especially in leafy areas such as the North Shore of Sydney, Spandek is a great option.

The deck and landscaping of the granny flat extend the living spaces and offers a welcoming platform and outdoor alfresco entertaining.
