Berowra.
Days
When you love where you live but need a little more room to move for an expanding family, a kitchen, family and master bedroom extension for this family was the perfect solution – and SBR Group was the perfect Berowra builder for them.
Home extensions can be tricky. You need a builder with experience in seamlessly ‘joining’ the new building to the existing house, so it is structurally sound as well as aesthetically appealing. The home-owners Ann and Mark chose a Berowra builder who could handle their challenging task of extending the side of the house for the kitchen and deck as well as the top storey to create a larger master bedroom.
Beware: Extensions in a bushfire zone.
This Berowra home is located in a bushfire prone zone, so the extensions needed to meet regulations. Hebel panels (aerated concrete) was used for the external walls – a cost-effective, lightweight solution that is strong, versatile, and resilient. Double-glazed doors leading to the deck and a tiled deck reduce their exposure to bushfire hazards.
Kitchen and laundry goals
The overall design of the kitchen is a modern classic; white shaker style cabinets, white Caesarstone benchtops, and subway tiles warmed with oak floorboards. Ann and Mark chose to utilise the long wall for the island to meet all their entertaining needs, handy to the living areas and large new deck. With an overhang, they now have extra seating for large parties or weekday family breakfasts. An open nook, an alternative to the butlers pantry, at the end of the kitchen hides some of the utilitarian kitchen functions.
An inbuilt gas fireplace gives this large living space a focal point, a classic feeling of warmth and cosiness.
Skylights are a great addition in a small dark corner or rooms that need brightening up. The owners installed one in the kitchen nook and another in the now cheery laundry. Their oversized skylights were custom built, and SBR Group had the skills to install these large fire-rated skylights.
With easy access through two bi-fold doors, the deck design separates the lounging area from the dining with all aspects enjoying the bush views.
The new master bedroom is distinguished by the raked ceiling and Juliet balcony to bring the bush serenity into this quiet retreat (and add a little romance!).
