Croydon Park Church Renovation.

This old church renovation in Croydon Park is anything but its cold dark past.  With soaring ceilings and hints of its spiritual history, the home is now a warm, comfortable haven for its little clan.

With extensive building experience, the owner, Nichola, had a clear vision for their renovated church – a fusion of stylish contemporary living with clues to its past.  Bringing their abundance of ideas, they chose SBR Group as their Croydon Park builder to turn their vision into a reality.  Actually, renovating a church can be quite a challenge as its original purpose is vastly different from a family home.

Preserving the integrity of the church structure, and capitalising on the generous ceiling space, a mezzanine floor was added.  With its curved roof, this level accommodates the bedrooms, and the open hallway allows the drama of the cathedral ceilings to play out in the sunlit living areas.  In fact, to support this first floor, SBR Group project team had to temporarily remove bricks from the façade to insert the 14-metre steel beam.

Pushing the church boundaries further, a loft with curved corrugated structure emerges from the roof to create more room for this family.  What’s more, the master bedroom with loft study accessed by a fold-down the staircase was designed to tie in with the original wooden ceiling rafters.  

The kitchen and eating area was extended at the back of the main church hall, opening to an ample, undercover alfresco dining space and grassed backyard. 

Nichola had always wanted to renovate a church, and now her dream has been realised with an impressive home, that embraces all the decorative elements of church architecture for modern living style.
