Glebe Heritage project
The Glebe Project (2019) required a sensitive and detailed approach, as the home was originally built in the Victorian era and needed to retain its heritage character. BuildTop began the renovation by studying the property’s original features and ensuring that every alteration, addition, and modern upgrade was carried out in harmony with its Victorian roots. Preserving authenticity was at the core of the design process, balancing historical charm with modern-day functionality.
The interior spaces were designed to flow seamlessly with the furniture and kitchen appliances, ensuring that modern living conveniences were introduced without disrupting the traditional feel. Appliances were built into custom cabinetry styled with heritage detailing, allowing modern technology to remain discreet while enhancing the timeless Victorian design. This created a sense of continuity, blending the past with the present.
Bathrooms and service rooms were treated with the same respect for heritage styling. The vanities and fittings were chosen with intricate Victorian-inspired detailing, complemented by patterned mosaic flooring reminiscent of the late 19th century. This not only honoured the era’s design traditions but also gave the interiors an elegant, authentic character.
The Victorian-style wooden staircase became a key highlight of the renovation. Featuring carved wooden posts and finely detailed railing ends, the staircase was reconstructed with craftsmanship that matched the property’s original detailing. To elevate the authenticity, iron-cast floral railings were incorporated, echoing the decorative ironwork so commonly associated with Victorian homes in Sydney.
Another striking feature was the restoration and installation of a Victorian-era style iron-cast wood fireplace. Designed to replicate the original fireplaces of the period, this element added both warmth and historic charm to the living space. It became a focal point of the interior, tying the new renovations back to the heritage aesthetic of the home.
Every design choice was made to ensure absolute harmony between the old and the new. From heritage flooring patterns to the ornamental woodwork and ironwork, BuildTop carefully integrated details that reflected the spirit of the Victorian era. At the same time, modern construction techniques and materials were used to guarantee safety, efficiency, and durability.
This Glebe renovation project stands as an example of BuildTop’s ability to respect heritage architecture while delivering practical, livable spaces for today’s homeowners. By blending modern comforts with historically accurate detailing, the home retained its Victorian elegance while gaining all the conveniences of a modern renovation.
