Northwood Oriental Project
Alteration & Addition
In 2020, BuildTop delivered a remarkable Alteration & Addition project in Northwood, NSW 2066, carefully designed in an Oriental-inspired modern style. The project drew on design elements associated with balance, tranquillity, and natural harmony, creating a space reminiscent of luxury wellness and meditation retreats. The goal was to enhance the existing home while introducing features that reflected relaxation, calm, and a contemporary Eastern aesthetic.
The alterations included open layouts, natural materials, and a deliberate connection between indoor and outdoor areas. Timber, stone, and minimalist finishes were used to create a sense of warmth and simplicity, while large windows and sliding doors maximised natural light. BuildTop’s licensed team (Builders Licence: 255303C) ensured that every addition blended seamlessly with the original home while bringing a distinctive Zen-like character to the design.
Bathrooms and service areas were upgraded with sleek vanities and fittings that drew on oriental luxury influences, offering balance between modern functionality and spa-like ambience. Soft lighting, carefully chosen textures, and calming colour palettes enhanced the overall mood, transforming everyday spaces into sanctuaries of comfort.
This Northwood project showcases BuildTop’s ability to adapt international architectural influences to Sydney living. By combining traditional Eastern principles of harmony with modern Australian construction standards, the home was elevated into a refined and tranquil retreat. The result is a residence that not only provides comfort and functionality but also embodies a timeless sense of peace and luxury.

Northwood Oriental Project
The Northwood Alteration & Addition Project (2020) by BuildTop was carefully designed around a Zen-inspired, Oriental style, embracing themes of peace, balance, and spiritual comfort. The architectural approach was influenced by luxury wellness and meditation centres, with the goal of creating a home that transcends everyday living and becomes a retreat-like sanctuary.
Every detail of the home was planned in harmony with furniture and appliances, ensuring that nothing appeared forced or out of place. Built-in cabinetry, natural timber tones, and low-profile furniture maintained the minimalist flow, while kitchen appliances were integrated seamlessly into sleek cabinetry. This careful balance of functionality and design allowed modern convenience to exist within a calming, Zen-like environment.
The kitchen space was envisioned as more than a cooking area—it was styled to be an extension of the home’s meditative feel. Natural stone benchtops, warm timber finishes, and simple, uncluttered lines were chosen to complement the oriental aesthetic. Even the placement of appliances followed principles of balance and proportion, reinforcing the overall sense of harmony.
Bathrooms were designed to feel like private spas, with a particular focus on luxury and relaxation. A custom vanity with clean lines, paired with warm lighting and soft finishes, enhanced the tranquil mood. To elevate this further, a Sauna was incorporated into the bathroom, creating a true wellness experience within the home. This addition turned a functional space into an intimate retreat for rejuvenation and reflection.
In line with the project’s spiritual inspiration, subtle Buddha ornaments and oriental décor were introduced, carefully positioned to encourage calm and contemplation. These elements were never overstated, but thoughtfully integrated to support the atmosphere of mindfulness and serenity. Their presence gave the interiors a sense of cultural depth and spiritual grounding.
The project’s Zen-like style was also reinforced through open spaces, natural materials, and thoughtful use of light. Wide windows and sliding doors encouraged a strong connection with the outdoor environment, echoing traditional Eastern design principles that emphasise harmony between nature and architecture. This balance ensured that the home felt airy, uncluttered, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
Altogether, the Northwood project stands as a striking example of how BuildTop can merge modern Australian construction with Oriental design principles. By blending minimalist architecture, harmonious furniture layouts, spa-like bathrooms with saunas, and subtle spiritual décor, the home was transformed into a peaceful retreat. It is more than just a residence—it is a place of calm, wellness, and balanced living, reflecting the timeless beauty of Zen-inspired design.
